FAQ

I have tried to answer most of the common questions I've received over the years.

Just Cake by VikiI hope these answers help you! If you don't find the answer you're looking for, please contact me!

How far in advance should I start planning my cake?

It is never too early to begin making plans for your wedding cake. Once you have confirmed a reception date, booked a hall, and selected colors and floral motifs, it is time to plan your cake. Some people book the cake as far as one year in advance. This is not necessary, but early booking increases the odds of a my availability. It is customary to book a wedding cake 3-6 months in advance of a reception date.

If the cake is another special event, just send me a quick Email and we can talk about the lead time.  The more notice I have the more chance I have of accommodating your schedule.

How much does a wedding cake cost?

Wedding cakes run the gamut in style and, as a result, have a wide range in price. During a wedding cake consultation, you will learn that many choices affect the total cost of your cake. The price of your cake is a function of the total number of guests to be served and the elaborateness of the design that you create. Your choices for items such as decorative sugar flowers and other handmade sugar art impact the total cake price the most.

How much cake do I need?

The amount of cake you need is directly proportional to the number of expected guests at your reception and if you are planning to serve other foods. I will help you select appropriately sized cakes for your event depending on your style and design choices.

What kind of cake designs are available?

Since all of my cakes are custom, the options are endless. You will create your own cake design by reviewing photos of my past work, sharing photos and ideas of your own. Round cakes are still the norm, but couples can explore different shapes from square to octagonal. Sugar paste flowers have replaced the plastic toppers. And techniques such as airbrushing and chocolate modeling and draping allow for a stunning cake display to mark your special day..

What is rolled fondant?

Rolled fondant has become more popular in the U.S. in recent  years.  It allows for many more decorating options than buttercream.   There are many different brands of rolled fondant.  The I use is the same product, Satin Ice, that the cake shows you may have watched use.  It tastes a little like marshmallows and has a very smooth look on your cake. Its texture and taste is quite different from buttercream—if you are not familiar with rolled fondant, we recommend you sample it!  Fondants are the rage today and seen in many of the wedding style magazines. They are a very upscale and elegant look. The trend today is "less is best" and the fondant cakes show this off extremely well.

Who will set up my cake?

If I will deliver and set your cake up at your reception site. I will work directly with the site manager or a person in charge to coordinate a delivery time. You do not need to provide anything other than contact information for the hall.  I do charge separately for delivery and setup.  We will discuss the charge once I know where the venue is.

How do I plan my wedding cake with you?

Your first step in planning a perfect cake for your reception is to arrange a cake consultation. During your consultation, you may review our portfolio of past creations and share your own ideas and photos with us. After the consultation, you will receive a written description of all of your choices along with a complete cost breakdown of the design your select. You can confirm your cake order at that time by paying a $50 deposit.  I accept cash, check, or your credit card through PayPal.  Call (360) 624-8032 or Email to schedule your cake consultation.
